Singing one Hymn to the Tune of Another

Loads and loads of examples - I personally like O Jesus I have Promised to the tune of the Muppet Show. Metrical hymns are good like that.

But yesterday, I discovered that it is possible to sing Before the Throne of God Above to Jerusalem. I'd never have expected that...

One of my favourites is At the name of Jesus, to the tune of Hawaii-50.

In my undergraduate days, it was popular on campus to sing "Amazing Grace" to the tune of "Peaceful Easy Feeling." Even back then I found it cheesy at best. But I admit to having considerable fun one undergraduate year trying to figure out all the different tunes to which one could fit "Amazing Grace." These include many television theme songs, including Gilligan's Island, the Mickey Mouse Club, and with some creative stretching and additions, the Addams Family and the Brady Bunch.

We're just about to sing The Lord is My Shepherd to the tune of Morning Has Broken at my father's funeral.

It's taking some work to persuade the vicar.
