Talk on Science and Religion

Yesterday, I did a talk on science and religion at a local-ish university Christian Union. Here's the talk. It's about 24 mins long...

The title of the talk was "Is the Bible Scientifically Reliable?".

And it's already the most downloaded of my online talks...

Is the Bible factually reliable?

Is it scientific to say that you can get free money by looking in the mouth of a fish?

If not, does that mean that Matthew 17 is not factually reliable?

How do we know that there actually was a coin in the fishes mouth when Jesus told Peter how to get free money?

The question isn't whether you (or I) can get free money from a fish, because as far as I know, no-one has ever claimed that Matthew 17 is to be repeated.

Surely the question you mean to be asking is whether on this one occasion 2000 years ago the man who was also God caused someone to find some money inside a fish. And that's a somewhat different question. And I for one wouldn't know any way of investigating it either scientifically or historically without first deciding whether or not he was God and whether Matthew is a trustworthy recorder of what happened.
